Red Canyon tent, shockcorded poles, stakes, quick clips, privacy walls, welcome mat, storage bags About Coleman The Coleman Company has been creating and innovating products for recreational outdoor use since W.C. Coleman started selling gasoline-powered lanterns in 1900. Inventor of the hugely popular fold-up camp stove, Coleman developed a plastic liner for his galvanized steel coolers in 1957--the birth of the modern cooler--and the company has been improving their utility and design ever since. The array of products that bear the Coleman name now includes just about everything you might need to work or play outdoors, from tents and sleeping bags to boats, backpacks, and furniture. Amazon.com Tent Guide Selecting a Tent Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind: Expect the Worst In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity. Three- and Four-Season Tents For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness. For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive. Domes, Tunnels and Sacks Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome. Size Matters Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters. Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

A Great Tent for the Price September 5, 2010 B. Silvers (Grants Pass, OR USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After one use (the first, I hope, of many) there are several things about this tent that really stood out; some positive, some negative.
The setup of the tent was super fast and easy. I don't know if it would be possible to set it up by yourself, but my wife and I were able to have it up in about 10 minutes.
An important thing to be aware of is that, unlike tent's I've had in the past, you've got to stake down the corners of the tent in order for it to assemble properly. I strongly suggest that you pick up some extra durable steel stakes. The stakes that come with the tent are pretty standard and will work in most ground types, but if you are camping somewhere that the ground is very hard and/or rocky you'll want to pick up some of the railroad spike jobs like these 10" Galvanized-Steel Tent Pegs - Set of 10. If you are going to pitch your tent on the beach, pick up some of these sand anchors Coleman Tent Anchors. Don't worry about how to anchor it in the snow. Because of its size and openness this is without a doubt a 3 season tent. If you brought this with you for an alpine camping trip in the winter you are going to have more important things to worry about than how to stake down the tent.
We were camping on the coast and the wind was really howling but with all the guy lines staked down on the rain-fly I had no worries about it flying off. The whole tent really stood up to the wind without any problems. The design of the tent allowed for ample airflow even when the wind wasn't ripping through the campground.
I'm a little leery about how well this tent would stand up to rain. The rain-fly doesn't seem to fully protect the sides. I'll post an update to this after the next time I camp in the rain with it.
The interior of the tent is roomy, but if you are looking for a tent with multiple "rooms" then look somewhere else. The partitions don't fully seal off the "rooms" and one of the grommets that are used to attach the partition to the wall of the tent came off when I first tried to attach it. I was more disappointed in the shoddy craftsmanship than in the loss of a grommet. I expect better from Coleman.
The two "gear storage" pouches are on either end of the tent and aren't easily accessible. A pouch right by the door would be nice so you could grab your flashlight on your way out the door. Not a deal breaker, really.
This tent will comfortably fit a family of 4 or 5.
Great Shape, Lacking In Quality August 31, 2010 Bruins Fan I am profoundly disappointed, especially considering I really like this tent!
We bought one for a camping weekend and after setting it up we noticed that there is a small tear in the seam right next to the door.
To their credit, when we returned I submitted an exchange request and Amazon shipped a new one out right away.
We took that camping the next weekend, set it up and found the EXACT same tear in the new one.
In short, we LOVE the room shape of this tent! We easily fit a queen air matress, a twin air mattress and a pack 'n' play in this tent with plenty of room to move. We stayed nice and dry and never felt cramped.
If it weren't for the quality of the seams (all around the tent they look very weak) I would give this tent 5 stars. The only reason I give it 2 instead of one is because of the overall shape.
We're currently boxing up both to return, and commend Amazon for a great return policy. We're shopping for a similar tent in a similar price range that will actually last beyond the setup!
Great Tent August 29, 2010 Shawn (California) I have had this tent for 2 seasons. It has been used for several weeks each summer. This year the tent has been up for 2 1/2 months straight. Other than it has faded abit from the sun it is still in great condition. It is very waterproof! It is great for summer camping with the netting at the top to vent out the summer heat. It is very roomy! I would highly recommend and it is a great tent for the price! It is very easy to set up, especially if there are 2 of you!
Good Tent Overall August 29, 2010 R. Glass (Cape Cod, MA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this tent several weeks ago and used it last weekend for camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Overall I am happy with it... Assembly was quick, the directions were easy to follow.
There is a good amount of usable floor space. We had plenty of room with three air matresses, space for clothes and other items. There is a mesh pouch that installs at the peak and I liked it because it was easy to tell at a glance if your small items were there. One drawback I see is that the screen windows at the ends are only covered by the fly, the only way to "seal" them is to lower the fly so it rests on them. There was no rain on our trip so no feedback on how well it stood up. I would recommend this tent.
Great Tent August 25, 2010 airtsw Took the tent out for a test run at a KOA camp ground. It took about twenty minutes to set up with no problems. It rained and the wind blew thru out the night and there were no leaks and the tent did not shake to much. Plenty of room inside for my wife and two kids. Since it was raining we set inside with lawn chairs and watched tv comfortable. would recommend this tent.
